Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 14368 Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} /GEA12/EB11-3-27. With reference to the Revolution Counter referred to in your memo reference Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 4/L63.3.27 we duly returned this to the makers, and now give you below copy of their report on the instrument in question:- "We have your favour of the 7th and have to-day "received the Revolution Counter No.18704 which "you complain is not reading correctly. "We find on inspection of this instrument that "it has been smothered in very thin oil which of "course puts considerable more drag on the indicating "hand, thus making it slow. As soon as this oil was "cleaned out of the instrument the Revolution Counter "was found to read accurately. "We would like to emphasize the fact that the "Greaser with which these cables are supplied is very "essentially for grease only and not oil and we would "ask you to kindly pass this remark on to your client. "With regard to the cable we find that the outer "casing of this has been broken in the centre, probably "owing to it having been pinched between the facia board "and the chassis in some way, this will of course "necessitate a new Outer cable being supplied. "In the circumstances we shall be glad if you will "kindly favour us with your official order for supplying "a new Cable complete. The Revolution Counter will be "cleaned out free of charge which we trust will meet with "your requirements". We shall be glad to have your further instructions in the matter as soon as possible.
