The Near Side was free from oil leaks. The brake drums were in good condition. The BZ linings are not so efficient as MR. The wearing qualities are very good, one half adjustment in 5,000 miles, they are equally as bad as MR after being washed. The wing nut and spindle for the adjustment of the brakes is now out of all proportion and requires reducing in length.

REAR AXLE LOP. GB.619. GB.1208 RANSOME AND MARLES BALL RACE
WITH DURAL BALL CAGE GB.100829. PINION HOUSING.

There does not appear to be any failure of the pinion ball race after 9000 miles. The axle has remained free from any period of noise on the forward and over-run. There has been a slight leak of oil from the pinion housing. No wear can be detected in the pinion bearing. Oil leaked down the Off side driving shaft and smothered the brakes, the drain not having been capable of draining the oil away.

REAR BRAKES LOP. GB.854.

Incorporating R.R. sch.543 Brake Adjustment.
Front brakes lined with BZ material.

The rear brakes have been efficient and the amount of wear has been small. The adjustment at this mileage has been two half turns. The Off Side brake became saturated with oil due to the leak down the axle tube. The drums were in a very good condition. Brake operating shafts have been amply lubricated.

FRONT ROAD SPRINGS LOP. FB.241. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}477 - 5303.

Piece N° FB.15
Type 650 lbs.
Initial Camber 2.500"
Buffer clearance 1 7/16"

We have examined the front springs. There is no sign of the leaves buckling; anchorage to front axle is firm. The lubrication to the fron OS. was scarce and the leaves were showing rust.

REAR ROAD SPRINGS LOP. FB.242. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 3477.

Piece N° FB.27
Type Woodhead 600 lbs.
Initial Camber 2.250"
Buffer clearance 3 1/4"

The rear road springs have been examined. There is no sign of failure. Lubrication of the shackle pins and spring leaves was ample. Spring clips were firmly tightened up.
