Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr. C.T. Salt.

With reference to your letter of the 31st ult. in which you refer to tests you have made on our experimental Carburetter Temperature Control Unit, it is a little difficult for us to lay down any laws governing this device without knowing the conditions under which you are operating.

It is important, however, to bear in mind that this device is not designed to provide anything different from other heating methods. In other words, all it does is to provide quickly and maintain under all circumstances, whatever heat conditions the designer of the engine requires.

If by means of hot spot, under bonnet air heat, conducted heat etc. it is hoped that the mixture reach the combustion chamber at 60°C. then you can do exactly the same thing with this device. The only difference is that the device will do it accurately and at all time, Summer and Winter, and do it very quickly, whereas by other methods our view is you cannot do these things at all. Everyone must agree that you cannot do it accurately Summer and Winter.

We are wondering whether you have really got a properly insulated pipe, as we generally find that there is a tendency on the part of manufacturers not to wish to do away with the hot spot, whereas it will be obvious to you that this unit could dispense with this method, which has become generally accepted in the motor trade.

To avoid delay all envelopes should be addressed to the firm.
