some better material, such as Maconita can be recommended, or a larger diameter of cable be got in.

We have asked Mr Lewis to see if he cannot obtain a set of failed wiring on which both of these faults are evident.

N.B. Bronze Wire braiding was fitted after the first 50 sets had been delivered. We should, therefore, like to know which particular braiding has given the trouble, or if both have failed.

Starter Motor Pinions.

The trouble with the starter motor pinions stiching has not been entirely eradicated, and there is a tendency for it to recur on any given tank, say every three months instead of every fortnight. The practice is to attend to it as soon as any trouble is manifest. The sticking is undoubtedly due tocorrosion arising out of condensation.

Mr Lewis confirms that the crankcase and clutch pit run very cool and the increase of temperature can be hardly detected by hand contact. This of course is quite wrong and is a fundamental fault of the way in which the installation has been arranged. Unless the air flow can be reversed or the flow through the engine compartment be shut off this difficulty will always be present. The presence of a thermostatic control on the water circulation system which is being tested out on one experimental tank is likely to be to some extent an improvement, but will not make very much difference.

Rocker Cover Fixing.

In regard to the rocker cover nuts coming loose, we propose to recommend to the War Office a different type of nut which has a better hand grip and is supplied with a man coiled spring, the spring pressure being used for holding down the rocker cover, and the nut itself being
