CAST DASH RIGIDITY. 47500 for prints

After seeing 15-EX we make the following observations.

We think that semi-isolation will look after all the dash (if the scuttle is made with this end in view) except in so far as supporting the column goes. The ultra raked sports column seems to be a very difficult proposition to hold. Possibly if we went back to the support as originally on 12-EX we should be better off. We did try making the present dust cover into a clip but it was not a cure.

It seems to us that Q-R is the weak link in the triangulation P-Q-R at present and wants strengthening.

Even if we get an absolutely rigid fixing at Q., the column is so nearly horizontal that it requires some support further up. At present the column stay is fixed at A.{Mr Adams} but the dash seems to behave like a piece of cheese at this point.

If point Q. could be fixed, we suggest that a continuation of the U section to the upper support would provide the dash with the necessary rigidity to carry the column. We have indicated what we mean exaggerated diagrammatically in α sketch. We do not know whether it is possible to improve the present dashboard angle pieces (6) as they hardly seem adequate. I suppose R.{Sir Henry Royce} objects to having them under the bonnet where they could be made a more reasonable size. An alternative shewn at β would be to carry the stiffener all
