XSCLED. Re/AJL.1/UJ.29.4.30. To. XP. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. c. to SE. ROP. c. to HV. R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to SX. HIGH COMPRESSION 20/25 HP. CAR PETROL CONSUMPTION. The statement in KP3/HES.4.30 that "the petrol consumption (pints per hour) is much higher on dynamometer test compared with present standard", is apt to be rather misleading. The consumption comparison should take into account horse-power developed at the particular speed at which the consumption figure is taken, - 2000 R.P.M. on the dynamometer test. The average consumption at 2000 R.P.M. of the first six high compression cars tested on the dynamometer was 35 pts/hour, the power output being 43.2 BHP, this gives us a consumption figure of .800 pints/HP/hour as against an average of many low compression cars of .740 pints/HP/hour. On this basis there is very little difference in the petrol consumption and we should not expect to find that the actual road running consumption under similar conditions to be materially higher.
