| RmFD 404 19th. September 1938. BY.10/C. Messrs. Park Ward & Co. Ltd., 473 High Road, Willesden, London. N.W.10. Dear Sirs, RE: BENTLEY 111. DELETION OF RUNNING BOARDS. In order to enable us to get ahead with experimental work as to the form of the rear end of the front wing where running boards are deleted, it is of the utmost importance that we should have a nearside wing following the design shown on PD.206 (of which you have a print) i.e. the type of wing which you are fitting to the Bentley 111 body at present under construction. The wing should be sent in the rough without priming, as it is our intention to take the wing off the nearside on the second Bentley body and replace it by the wing in the rough which you will supply in accordance with this instruction, and we will then modify the rear end of the wing in a number of ways to ascertain the best form for the rear end of the front wing, which will prevent splash being thrown up on to the rear wing in the absence of the running board. We are experiencing the kind of weather at the moment, which is necessary for this experimental proposal, the dry spell made experimental work impossible. Would you therefore be good enough to treat this matter as being extremely urgent, and let us have the nearside wing in question as quickly as possible. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. hotev. file FD{Frank Dodd - Bodies} CHIEF ENGINEER - CHASSIS. | ||
