Chassis Gearbox Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/Tln. c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/JD.{J. Draper - Frames} c. to FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} c. to Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/JH.22.7.43. Senior Range - Revised Gearbox. Trouble due to oil leaks has been experienced on the Revised Gearbox. The source of the trouble is an eccentric pin GB.4172 which acts as the fulcrum for a gear selector fork on the offside of the box. The pin is a running fit in the casing, it has scarcely any head to form an oil seal and is held in by a frail disc clamp and two studs. The clamp bends. Oil leaks out at this source and gets driven onto the servo with serious results, so we are told. I suggest we give the shops a revised design forthwith to enable them at once to correct the car in question, and to enable them to modify all others when the occasion arises. The suggestion is to make a new eccentric pin having an enlarged diameter head under which some form of oil retaining washer can be used, such as soft aluminium thick vellumoid etc. The clamp need not be circular, but bar like in form and the metal so saved used to increase its bending strength. If we produce the design and details, Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} has promised to put the pieces in hand forthwith.
