Rear Axle Damper Mountings and Bensport Body.

We attach herewith blueprint LeC.3387 dealing with the rear shock damper mounting on Bentley 4.
This drawing shows modifications to allow of a metal to metal bump instead of relying on ¼โ€ of compressed rubber between the axle and the frame, as a result of Hancock's experiences in France with Peregrine.

We have used the Peregrine 2 damper link which has been shortened 1โ€ and by raising the tubular crossmember supporting the shock dampers and the rear end of the battery box we have been able to use the standard Peregrine shock damper lever which is a costly forging now that it is formed in one piece with the shaft.

The same battery box is used on both Peregrine and Bensport, but a slightly longer forging is required on Bensport for suspending the box from the tubular crossmember.

The point however we wish to particularly raise in this memo is the room allowed for the tray supporting the rear seat cushions. We should like to cut this back as indicated by the red line on the blueprint as it considerably improves the sheet metal brackets supporting the damper, and so far as we can see does not detract from the efficiency of the cushion.

Would you kindly let us know if this alteration can be made without spoiling the seating. If this modification is not found possible then the dotted lines should be followed showing the shock damper supports clearing the original form of tray for the seat cushion.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
