| Ely. From Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} Y260 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}5/MJ.31.10.36. B-3-GA. When your driver brought this car in yesterday he complained that the rear axle was emptying itself in about 800 miles. Upon examination this proved to be due to the fact that a short time ago the pinion nose had broken off and the subsequent angular distortion of the pinion shaft had removed the oil retaining thread. We are fitting new parts, and took advantage of the axle being in pieces to fit a new type of oil seal on each half shaft which we hope may overcome a few complaints of oil getting on to the brakes. On this car a certain amount of oil had leaked down each shaft so perhaps you will let us know in six months or a year's time whether the new seals have been satisfactory. We will 'phone you on Monday afternoon exactly when the car will be ready to collect. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/H.Grylls. | ||
