Firth & Sons, Ltd., Norfolk Works, SHEFFIELD. Dear Sirs, SPECIAL EXPERIMENTAL PHANTOM 11 REAR SPRINGS. With reference to your drawing No. 23-EX of front and rear springs (sports type) for our 40/50 car. The front spring will be quite satisfactory. With reference to the rear spring, however, we would point out the following - (1) Solid Eye at Rear of Rear Spring?(Should be rolled). (2) We cannot have 13.500" Centres for Inner clips on rear spring, minimum distance allowable 17.500" Centres.(Fouls nuts on Brake Drum at 16.500"). (3) We cannot have 48.875 Centres of outer clips, as these foul subframe support. Clips should be 45.500 max. centres or between 52.600 and 54.000 Centres. We should like to know what sort of spring you could give us to conform with these conditions. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Ltd. If the fitting of three clips presents very great difficulties, we might be prepared to try two only fitted at A and B. | ||
