X.4384. GOSHAWKAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine STARTER MOTOR.

We propose to have made up a GoshawkAero EngineCodename for 20HP Car / Aero Engine after KestrelAero Engine dynamo and a starter motor, each machine to have solid field poles and no mica (only varnish or oxide) between the armature plates, even though the teeth are milled, and to make very careful comparative tests of these machines with their respective standards.

In the case of the motor, we might perhaps standardise the alteration straight away, using up existing stock of pole piece punchings, the argument for so doing being based upon results which we have reported for similar comparison made with 40/50 motors. In the case of the dynamo, however, careful comparative tests would be necessary before such a change were made, as the conditions are hardly similar.

We should be interested in Mr. Royce's further views on the matter.
