X.4079.a GOSHAWK 11. IGNITION COIL. V3485

With reference to the three or four coils with which we have had some trouble recently, in order to entirely eliminate this trouble and prevent it recurring, it is absolutely necessary to adopt the following modifications without delay:-

(a) Instead of using two thicknesses of the present type of condenser paper between each layer of turns we must use three thicknesses.

(b) We must at once try boiling the coils in paraffin wax - any coils which have been fitted up and are available should be taken out of their cases and boiled in wax, even although nothing further can be done.

(c) The number of primary turns on the coil remain the same, but the number of secondary turns will be decreased. It is considered that we shall have somewhere in the neighborhood of about 18,000 and 19,000 turns of the secondary. We must get as many turns on as possible in accordance with the foregoing instructions.

(d) The length of the ballast resistance wire should be reduced from 32" to 25".
