WST X6017 RECEIVED 1932 MAR. 17 B/C - Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY/RD6/W.17-3-32. Re :- Ignition Coil. (R2/M.24-1-32) We attach hereto one blue print of "D" Scheme 533, of an Inside Secondary Ignition Coil. We have considered the suggestions made by R.{Sir Henry Royce} to produce the core from flat strip. This has serious disadvantages from assembly point of view and we have, therefore, suggested another form of core built up mainly of flat strip and which gives much less percentage of waste space than our present standard method, and in order to complete the iron circuit we should propose to use iron strips suitably bent, all of which would be alike and being separate would effectively stop any eddy currents. We have shown on the drawing the complete Coil with top and bottom and metal case, but we propose for the time being not to put any dies in hand for these parts but to make up the windings only and test same for output. The extraction of the H.T. from the inside presents a certain amount of difficulty if the core is to be kept insulated, which is preferable, and although we have indicated one method on the drawing we feel that if the output of this coil is anything like satisfactory, we should have another go on this particular feature.
