In reply to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}3/LG22.7.20., Mr. John Pugh, of Rudge-Whitworth Ltd., has written us as follows:- "Ihave not full information of all the tyres and "all rims used in the 500 miles Speedway Race at "Indianapolis, but we believe that in most cases the "straight sided wired on tyres were employed with the "usual split detachable flange, the latter being held "in place by split pins at the ends and at intervals "round the rim, the split pins passing through the "channel and through the detachable flange itself "Except for the pressure of the walls of the tyre the "flange without these split pins will centrifugal off "at something like 80 miles an hour".
