X1263 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/AW. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}7/KW.5.11.35. Bentley Fuel Pumps. With reference to the five Bentley pumps you asked me to test for noise, below is given report. The pumps were tested on a production chassis, each one given 1/4 hour's running, though no actual road work was done. No.1 Pump. 1/4 hour running - quietness of operation O.K. No.2 Pump. 1/4 hour running - quietness of operation passable. No.3 Pump. 1/4 hour running - quietness of operation passable. No.4 Pump. 1/4 hour running - quietness of operation varies, on some strokes a distinct metallic knock is audible. The setting of this pump should be checked and possibly the pressure governing springs. No.5 Pump. 1/4 hour running - quietness of operation passable, but pump works erratically, no doubt due to faulty valves. These should be changed. One point which should be watched before condemning any one fuel pump is that all pipe lines are free from air leaks. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/J.Bowering. | ||
