Letter regarding a spring squeaking issue on the 19-LW Open Trials Car and arrangements for its repair.

| PN.{Mr Northey} c. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Re. 19-LW OPEN TRIALS CAR. We are in receipt of your telegram stating that Boot must be available in London with the car on Sunday morning. These instructions have been conveyed to him, and he left with the car this morning. We are rather sorry that you found it necessary for him to leave, as we were anxious to deal with the spring squeaking, which we have just been informed is also a serious complaint with the car. This we feel can be overcome by re-bedding of the rear spring plates, and it would have been an excellent opportunity to prove whether this attention overcame the trouble, this being a point about which Mr. Royce is very keen. We regret, therefore, that we have not been able to deal with this complaint owing to the necessity of carrying out your instructions for the return of the car. We trust, however, that you will give us every opportunity for trying this proposed cure and getting your opinion of same, as we are now arranging for a pair of rear springs to be made up with the plates fitted as above described, and if possible, plain bottom leaf springs with fittings to suit, which we can fix on your car as soon as it is available. I should be glad to hear from you whether this could be arranged, since if it is not convenient for the car to be returned to Derby, we could send the special springs to London to be changed there. The springs we hope will be available in about 5 or 6 days' time. Further details of the attention we have given to this car will be explained to you by driver Boot, whom we are pleased to say has taken great interest in the work on this car. EP.{G.
