SECRET. 600. To Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} & C. From RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} (Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}) LA.{L. A. Archer} c. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hdy.{William Hardy} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}1/FH.7.1.39. MODIFICATIONS - WRAITH. We attach hereto list of retrospective design modifications carried out on Wraith Chassis since commencement of Production. Apart from major changes of Cylinder Head, Gearbox and Propeller Shaft, there are also 34 other items of a lesser nature included, whilst in addition there have been minor changes not shown in the list. file 1260 Referring to Cylinder Heads it will be recalled that RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}1/MC.21.10.38. contained an estimate of £2,000. 0. 0d. but since this was submitted it has been found necessary to provide for certain incidental Labour Charges which were not legislated for, consequently the Charges for this Changeover now total £2,700. 0. 0d. Experience proves that it is difficult to accurately estimate all incidental Charges involved in such Changeovers, and a 10% Contingency Charge has been added for this reason, giving a total of £7,113. 14. 7d. This figure covers all items mentioned on the list (including Cylinder Heads) and is equivalent to a Charge of £23. 14. 3d. per Chassis when distributed over A.{Mr Adams} and B. Series. The figures given are based on the work being carried out at Derby and are consequently lower than if Changeovers were executed outside, therefore we are anxious that as many cars as possible be returned to W. and dealt with by LA.{L. A. Archer} There are a number of Chassis abroad including some 12 in or around Paris, and it is recommended that Sr. be asked to submit a Programme for these Chassis. We will send men accustomed to this class of work to carry out Changeovers, but as regards Chassis in America and Australia, it is recommended these be left in abeyance. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} (List of modifications attached to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and C's copies). | ||
