ORIGINAL TO HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} S E C R E T. R3/M23.10.24. Copy to G.L " " A.D " " A.G.E E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. 11. INSTRUMENT BOARD. 48530 (re. VISIT OF HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} TO WW. ON WEDNESDAY, 22/10/24.) The grouping of the instruments on the instrument board appears to be coming out quite well but I am doubtful whether the means of illumination is going to be successful, as the light strikes the face of the glass front of the instrument box at such an angle as to be largely lost by reflection. This will however be tested, but at the same time we think that white faces with black letters for the instruments might be much more easy to read, and should be tried. I am quite in agreement to using a moulded bakelite part, after standardisation, and with regard to the beaded frame which is said to be impossible to make as an aluminium die casting, I think this should be formed from an extruded bar bent round and welded in the middle. (Design might be modified.) R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
