With the breather closed less oil was found in the end bracket and oil had definitely been forced up towards the instrument drive.

The plain bearing of the tacho-drive was well lubricated with oil whereas with the breather open it had been very stiff with grease drawn from the flexible drive.

It will be seen from this report that the breather is a disadvantage and we have concluded that the only satisfactory method of excluding oil would be the fitting of a Gits oil seal immediately behind the dynamo bearing on the commutator side.

As it will be probably some time before the tachometer drive is removed from the dynamo we recommend that a scheme be instructed as soon as possible including the Gits oil seals

At the same time we recommend that the breather be deleted from all existing dynamos in the meantime.
