86002b. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.3/MA.16.10.35 PHANTOM III SPARKING PLUGS. Messrs.Lodge Plugs are anxious to improve the Phantom III sparking plug by using brazed in earth electrodes. This brazing of the earth electrode has been proved to be an advantage on aero engine plugs for improving the thermal conductivity of the earth electrodes to the plug body. In order to do this it has been necessary to lengthen the thread of the sparking plug .062" and this lengthening of the thread will mean that the plug will protrude by that amount beyond the insert in the cylinder head. We shall be glad therefore if you will make an alternation to the insert by lengthening the same .062" so that we can go ahead with this improved sparking plug. We have informed Messrs.Lodge that for the moment we cannot agree to this modification, until the necessary increase in length has been made to the insert as proposed above.
