86052 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.2/MA. 4th June, 1935. Mr. Bernard Hopps, Messrs. Lodge Plugs, Ltd., Rugby. Dear Mr. Hopps, Replying to your letter of the 3rd instant the cause of the trouble with your condenser was the flexible connection to one of the foils of the condenser to the case being too short and this caused the soldered joint to fail. We have noted this trouble on other condensers and as a result of your specific failure a very rigid inspection was made of all condensers at our Works. Several of these condensers were found to possess the same defect and were immediately returned to the makers for rectification. We have requested the makers to carry out a modification at this point using a longer flexible to avoid any recurrence of this trouble. The possibility of these condensers breaking down internally is very remote indeed, but we have considered, as a result of your failure, the possibility of fitting to export cars a spare condenser so that in the remote possibility of any failure the car would not be derelict. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
