X3441 LUBRICATION OF FRONT PIVOTS
40/50 CHASSIS.

In order to lubricate front pivots on the 40/50 chassis it is necessary to remove the top cap (which has a thread about 2" dia.) which demands a large spanner to undo it. It is not an easy operation to work a large spanner when the front mudguards and bootings are fitted. On experimental cars, we have fitted a small screw plug with hexagon head in the top of the large caps which can be undone with our standard 5/16 spanner; the same spanner which fits all the other lubricators on the car. The lubricating hole then comes directly over the hole in the pivot pin so that if the cap is filled up with oil, both bearings are certain to be lubricated.

The large caps, have, up to lately, been made of nickel silver. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} states in future these are to be made of a Delta metal forging and painted with the rest of the car. The small plug, we suggest, would avoid the paint being damaged.
