X43227 RE "GOSHAWK II" INDUCTION PIPE.

We send you herewith drawing Lec.1459 shewing a modified induction pipe for the "Goshawk II" to overcome the expansion troubles due to the hot spot.

You will notice in this design that all of the metal of the induction pipe is cooled by in-coming gas, and that the exhaust passes straight downwards through a passage-way in the induction pipe. We should be glad if you could instruct this to be tried.

We expect to send two other styles.

We think that this scheme Lec.1459 does not provide such a pronounced hot spot effect as the original design, and that it may suffer from loss of power at the higher range of speed. It offers, however, such advantages in other respects that Mr. Royce thinks it should be tried.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
