X43248 -------------------------------------------- There has always been complaints about oil flinging out of the above joints, and it is proposed to effect an improvement by issuing amended instructions for fitting, testing and lubricating same. The main trouble is that more oil than is necessary can be used, and as the cover will only hold so much, the amount flung out is equal to this excess. A glance at the arrgt.drg. G.50309 will show that any oil running over the cover G.51094 into the oil retainer G.50290, when stationary, will, when revolving at high speed, run up the latter and passed the felt to the max. dia. of cover where it will be flung off. This process is repeated each time the shaft comes to rest, the oil being retained in cover when running by centrifugal force, but over-flowing into the oil retainer (which will only hold a limited quantity), each stoppage, until no oil runs over the edge of cover when there is no further leak until more is added. The only other possible leaks to occur are where the flanges are bolted together and through the lubricator. The former will not happen if the workmanship is correct, the latter however has been prevalent. This is due to the fact that the special lubricator for universal joints, has not been supplied as sample submitted i.e., with additional disc non-return valve. contd :- | ||
