To HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} 1328 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/JH.14.10.37. 1.B.IV. Car. We have had serious trouble on 6.B.IV and 3.B.IV car with the thermostat scheme which is about to be standardised on Bentley (M series). It is therefore of the utmost importance that we should take 1.B.IV. car fitted with an alternative scheme to Brooklands immediately. Will you therefore please carry out the following on the carwhile it is in the garage. (1) Fit shutter grille off 6.B.IV. radiator to the matrix unit which we will hand you and complete same as a Radiator. Fit this to 1.B.IV. (2) Make two alternative pipes from the thermostat casing to the water pump - one ½" dia. the other 7/16" dia. We would like this work completed today if possible.
