-2- appearance. If you must have 6 seaters you must supply the 3" longer frame already on the road. In my long memo. I explain the why and wherefore. I have written the foregoing after much careful thought. The slowing up of production so as to make the 150 keep Derby quietly going is Mr. Wormald's suggestion, which seems to me excellent, as well as reducing the risk of excessive stock. We may very quickly arrive at a safe decision to go ahead but at the moment I am dead certain the foregoing is good for the time being. In our future policy two broad views can be considered:- 1st. - Are we to increase the size and power of the engine to suit the larger bodies? or 2nd. - Are we to make the best of the present size of engine and limit the weight and size of body that the present engine can deal with in the R.R. standard of efficiency? It will be remembered that we shall always have some limit on the body even if we increase the engine size. - - - - I anticipate that you and Mr. Cowen and perhaps our Directors may not agree to the suggestion given in this memo. as not promising sufficient profit. I can only reply that I believe they are the least unprofitable, and I cannot agree to going on until we have made some changes in our policy or our model. I may be outvoted in which case it is not my responsibility. Believe me, Yours v.{VIENNA} sincerely, (Sgd.) F.{Mr Friese} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Royce. | ||
