To H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} R-d.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} from H-C. c. G.J. & D.W. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} & EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. Dc. * /L ORIGINAL ECL/T12.6.23. X.4290 - SCINTILLA DYNAMO AND REGULATOR. This was received by us from Messrs. Scintilla Ltd., in January last, and a certain amount of delay in the investigation of this machine resulted from the fact that the diagram of connections given by the makers did not correspond with the actual arrangement. Also that the voltages at which the auxiliary relay and cutout operated, as adjusted by the makers, did not appear to be O.K. Therefore, a certain amount of correspondence took place which resulted in their changing for us the regulator unit, and since then the bench results, though more satisfactory, do not even now appear to be suitable for operation on a chassis. As usual in these cases the dynamo is a plain shunt wound machine, the particulars of which are as follows:- Carcase diameter. ..... 5.500" " length ..... 5.050" " thickness ..... .356 Armature diameter ..... 3.189 " active length. 3.275 Length of comm. and connections excluding comm. spokes. ..... .975 Ditto including comm. spokes. ..... 1.160 Length of overhang at driving end ..... .85 Weight of complete machine without pulley or suspension ..... 29.1 lbs. Weight of armature complete without pulley. ..... 8.9 lbs. Air gap. ..... .99 mm.(.039") Contd. | ||
