To HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} X 600a Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl{Len H. Swindell} 8/MH.{M. Huckerby} 30.8.37. 26G VI WIII, No I Unit. The above car has been sent in the shop following the exhaust valve failure in France. Will you please remove the engine, dismantle and inspect. We desire to rebuild the engine again as soon as possible with the necessary new parts, including the modified cylinder head LEC 5684, in order to carry on with urgent chassis suspension tests. The existing cylinder head to be sectioned with a view to inspecting the water ways around the seats of the exhaust valve. For comparison we would also like to section one of the improved cored heads LEC 5684 at the same position. Other parts which require recording are the camshaft profiles in order to measure for wear, also bottom tappets and the clearance in their bushes. The remaining exhaust valves to be crack tested, likewise the inlet valves which are in S65 material. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell} | ||
