To CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X8380 R1/M21.12.25. CHASSIS UNDERFRAME. X. 8380 X. 5380 Personally I do not know enough about this to be able to recommend our making them universally, and I should think that the safest thing to do would be to go slowly until we have more experience. I am particularly anxious that they should not increase the weight of the bodywork, and I also have an impression that they may interfere with the accessibility of the chassis. My third fear is that the floor of the car may be hardly as satisfactory as regards noises and the ingress of hot air from the engine. I do not recommend however that we abandon the attempt, but to go on slowly and watch the results of a further few experiments. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
