13 13.7.40. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/JMS. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley, Esq., Rolls Royce Incorporated, 2/251, General Motors Buildings, DETROIT, Michigan. Dear Olley, We have today despatched to you two wooden models of the most difficult pieces of the ½" gun. We have previously given you the physical qualities required for the nickel chrome molybdenum steel which we are using for barrels and other highly stressed parts. Actually we are utilising Vibrac. The breech block is Vibrac V.30, the barrel extension SNCR - R.R. specification 2032. We are interested in a price, delivery date and quantities that can be dealt with. Your serial 165 - High Speed Gears, Lubrication. I have passed on to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} your information on gear lubrication, and I am now handing him the note with the above reference. He will doubtless reply in due course. Serial No.173. Thank you for the notes on axle deflection which are of great interest. I am afraid we have no accurate comparative figures to give you on our own axles, but I will see what we can find. Serial No.168. We note your remark on spark plugs. In spite of the American view with regard to the 14 m/m plug, this is the article with which we are fighting and getting our successes. One can visualise a certain amount of resentment in the service if one has two sizes of spark plug for the same make of engine though, of course, they have to stock 18 m/m plugs for the american engine planes. However, I will get their reaction on the matter. Continued. | ||
