R from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to J c. to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} for EH c. to By c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} [handwritten: 2934] EPI/W4617. [STAMP: WOR{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 4 JUN 1917 RECEIVED] Re. OFFICIAL TESTS REQUIRED FOR INCREASED H.P.ENGINES. We have at last received notification of the above, [handwritten: Capt. Briggs the board] which we understand is as follows:- ENDURANCE TEST. 5 mins. at max. H.P. at revs. specified, with plus or minus 5% variation in revs. Then continue three hours continuous run, at 90% of the maximum power with plus or minus 5% variation in revs. FINAL TEST. 5 mins. same as above, then continue half an hour 90% maximum power as above. These were the proposals discussed, which it was pointed out were to be general for all manufacturers' tests. The matter is not yet settled, as there were several points not clear, such as consumption record, marking of nameplate, etc. Also, the 5% variation, they point out is for revs, whereas we claim it for H.P. The chief point we are concerned about however, is the power and revs. required for the continuous runs. We, at the Works, have understood that with the increased H.P. engines, higher power or revs. for bench test running would not be required, than what we are giving at present, i.e. more than the actual Contract. We should demonstrate the maximum power at maximum revs. for short run only. We should like your instructions on this point. | ||
