A.{Mr Adams} Robotham, Esq., Experimental Department, Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. Dear Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}, You may remember the Cadillac exhaust valve which you let me have so that I could refer it to our people in the States. I have just received their views as to its condition, and quote them herewith:- "You will recall that you sent me the Cadillac V-16 valve that was taken from the automobile which Rolls Royce ran in their official 10,000 mile high speed tests on Continental roads. Sam Heron has seen the valve and I believe I stated in my last letter to you that he felt the build-up on the stem might be caused by a combination of poor and too heavy oil. Since writing you I have seen several additional people at the Cadillac factory and again mentioned the valve casually and all of them seemed to attribute the poor life to too heavy oil. I believe Mr. Ollie of the Cadillac Company, formerly of the Rolls Royce Company, has carried on considerable correspondence with Rolls Royce. Cadillac normally get much better valve life than you might be lead to believe from the Rolls Royce test." Apparently they did take us seriously! Yours sincerely, F.R. Banks. FRB/BB | ||
