Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}2/AP. March 9th.1938 J.A.Daniell Esq., Messrs Hardy Spicer & Co.Ltd., Birch Road, Witton, BIRMINGHAM 6. Dear Mr. Daniell, Further to our telephone conversation about the Phantom III. propeller shaft, herewith our drawing G.85718 showing the shaft we are likely to want in production quantities. We have stipulated that the front end must not be more than a 1/4 oz/inch out of balance, and that the cork resonance dampers must be fitted. Will you please let us have one such shaft for test as soon as you can, and also send us a quotation for an order of 200 such shafts. Last night I saw Haynes in Coventry and he said you had just come back from America with all the latest dope on semi-floating axles. If you come over to the Works in the near future when we have completed some wheel experiments, we should much like to hear your views on the cause and prevention of half shaft failures. Yours sincerely, | ||
