12th. May, 1939.

Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd.,
Great King Street,
BIRMINGHAM.19.

For the attention of Mr. C.E. Robinson.

Dear Sirs,

We have now completed our tests on the six RR1 type regulators to DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}1923 recently received from you. Attached are the tabulated results of these tests.

In testing these units we adhered rigidly to specification No.ELC.7.S. reference Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}29/JH.18.1.39. but with the difference that we had altered the open circuit voltage figures of 15.9 and 16.3 volts, to 16.0 and 16.4. It will be remembered that during our last visit to your Works, it was agreed with Mr. Robinson that we should revert to his voltage setting limits of 16.0 and 16.4 for the first production batch of fifty units, with a view to seeing how they worked out when produced in quantities and in customers hands.

At the time of that visit we actually altered the figures to 16.0 and 16.4 in pencil on the copy of the specification that we had with us.

Since then we have pointed out to our Mr. Davis that his drawing and the copies of the specification issued by him, need altering in accordance.

Generally the results obtained on these units are satisfactory, but it will be seen that we still experienced that variation in performance (though not
