X4117 PN.{Mr Northey}1/WT3.7.30. Chassis 119-GN. Mr. Iden. It appears that after having run 200 miles the throttle of this car seized up in the open position when starting on a run from London to Plymouth. It was found subsequently that the spindle of the throttle had picked up and seized. The carburetter was dismantled at N. where it was found that the spindle of the butterfly valve was slightly oblique and was picking up at both ends. These were eased off and the parts reassembled, when everything was found to be O.K. I/do not know how many chassis have now been produced having the most recent arrangement of exhaust heating but should be glad to know whether this is an isolated case, and whether such an accident is practically in the last degree unlikely again, in view of our standard meticulous inspection.
