Re: BENTLEY III. FRAME SIDE MEMBERS.

427

We send herewith LeC.5741 showing a dimensioned view of the Bentley III. frame side member. This drawing also shows the transmission centre line, the centre line of No.6 cylinder, the steering column position, the wheel-base, the track and the position of the dashboard; also we give the particulars of the rear road spring and the bump and rebound of the rear axle.

The frame side member is a "U" shape pressing of low carbon steel .128" thick. Subsequent schemes will show the construction of the frame cross and the gussets extending from the cross to the front suspension. The wheels shown are 16" rims with 6" section tyres and the level frame height from the ground is for these wheels. We are, however, also considering the use of 17" rims with 6" section tyres.

With respect to the front end of the frame side member pressing, we are taking up with the makers the question of providing the dies with an interchangeable front end so that the side member may be used on both Bentley III. and Pheonix. If this can be done, as we believe it can, then we shall form on the front end of the side member the frame extension to take the front bumper. However, this drawing will enable you to make details of the side members and to institute trade enquiries.

Att: LeC.5741.
