Flexibility in the transmission may be the solution. Salerni insisted on a partial engagement of the clutch for this reason.

(4) The "klonk" due to the dogs shooting home can be easily prevented, no doubt.

(5) An effective clutch stop is essential.

(6) Do Maybach use their patented scheme with reservoir which avoids the need for the release of the accelerator pedal when changing down?

(7) Do the steering column control levers toggle as we understand they did originally?

We think that although the hand control may be "turned down" for 3rd. and 4th. as being insufficiently fool-proof it may do for 2nd. and 3rd. of the new box for Phantom, provided always that the same security against damage as we now have can be obtained.

This we think may be done for the 3rd. speed. The 2nd speed does not seem to be nearly as important as the engine would have to be raced with the car almost stationary and the clutch in to do damage when moving into this gear. However it may be thought that even this must be provided against.
