The switch was first adjusted without using the extra coil for use with a 30 h.p dynamo, so that after heating on 17.0 volts it would open at 17.0 volts and close at 12.1 volts with the dynamo standing. Then with the dynamo running at 1600 rpm, (22mph) the closing point was 12.0 volts.
With the points open the dynamo cut in at (14 volts) 3100 rpm (42 mph), and would light a side-lamp at 17.0 volts at 4000 rpm (55 mph).
The extra coil was now connected and without any adjustments being made, the effect on the operation was noted as follows:—
