W. A.{Mr Adams} Rowbotham, Esq., Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Mr. Rowbotham, The four issues of THE MOTOR published during June have contained only one Technical Review, which dealt with Torsion Bar Springing. There are ten companies in Europe who now use this type and from experience it would seem that its merits of light weight and simplicity are not handicapped by unreliability or any unexpected snags in production. Another item of technical interest during the month was the first announcement of 1939 type cars, this being the Lea-Francis range with four-cylinder inclined overhead-valve engines. As an interesting detail one notes that this has a cooling system in which the pump circulation is confined to the cylinder head and the block is cooled by thermo-syphon, a scheme that is certainly becoming more popular. The road tests, as usual, have embraced quite different types of car, as follows:- June 7. Rover Sixteen June 14. 20 h.p. Alvis Dodge Straight-Eight June 21. 1,100 c.c. Fiat June 28. 30 h.p. Ford V8 4.3-litre Short Chassis Alvis -1- | ||
