( 8 ) FRONT SUSPENSION. Apart from the lubrication faults of the front suspension and the fouling which occurred, the condition of the front suspension is good. The Springs have not collapsed. No wear can be detected in the pivot bearings or the bearing pins of the levers. STEERING. The cross steering tube ball joints show chattering of the bottom cups. These cups should be a press fit in the recess of the tube. It is not a question of lock of lubrication. The chattering is exactly the same as experienced on the crankshaft, where the Damper cone used to chatter. STARTER MOTOR The Starter-Motor has not given the slightest trouble throughout the mileage. DYNAMO. The Dynamo output has been satisfactory. No undue evaporation of water from the Battery has taken place. Full lighting has not been in use. PETROL GAUGE. This failed at the beginning through the fuse blowing in the instrument. The cause was due to a small blob of solder having dropped on to the resistance of the unit in the tank, when making the connections. No further trouble has occurred. PETROL TANK. The Petrol Tank has not given any trouble. A peculiar feature is, that although the connecting links of the Dampers, Spring gaiters, Dampers, have suffered by stones, the Tank has not received any damage. There has been a strong smell of petrol in the rear seats when the tank was full. SPEED-OMETER. The trip reading failed early in the test. It would not read over 10 miles, then it stopped at 100, finally ceasing to work. The speed indicator has at times stuck at 30 M.P.H. mark. The lighting of the instruments is good. One can read the miles at the end of a run with the illumination. The lighting under the Bonnet is a decided advantage. SIDE SPARE WHEELS. These have rode very steady. No failure of the brackets has arisen. | ||
