-5- one occasion during the mileage when the steering became heavy at low speeds and a squeak developed from the front ball end of the side steering tube. This was found to be due to the failure of the bijur supplying the ball end, the bijur feeding the ball end was passing no oil. This was a S.D. we replaced it by an S.A as the amount supplied by the S.D we did not consider to be sufficient. We also found during our investigations that the felt filter fitted in the front axle supplying the oil to the pivot of the O.S. was not allowing sufficient oil to pass through. It appeared to be compressed too tightly. We therefore reduced the thickness of the felt washer. UNIVERSAL JOINT & PROP. SHAFT to LOP.G.53436. The rear universal joint of the prop. shaft has remained perfectly oil tight, no oil being added. The front universal joint lost 1/8 pint at 4,500 miles. We traced this to a leaky ball valve of the One-shot lubricator. It has not lost any oil during the further running of the car. REAR AXLE to LOP.G.54309. G.L.483 Modified Lubrication to Rear Brake Actuating Shafts. The rear axle has been constantly noisy upon acceleration, starting at a speed of 30 MPH., the worse period being 50 MPH. It is not considered to be a good axle for silence from a standard axle point of view. It has remained consistently so and has not developed. Otherwise the axle has given no trouble and is practically free from all leaks. REAR BRAKES to LOP.G.53594. Foot and Hand Brakes Lined with Ferodo Bonded Asbestos. The rear brakes developed slight groans which have remained consistent. The groans are obtained by a very light pedal pressure such as is used when finally pulling up the car. The brakes have worn a considerable amount, practically all the chauffeurs adjustment has been taken up. The drum surfaces are in a fairly good condition and do not show any heavy score marks. There has been no trouble with the brake operating shafts, and the lubrication of the same appears to be satisfactory from an outside observation. FRONT AXLE & BRAKES to LOP.G.54313 - G.L.480. G.L.480 .375 Thick Shoes - Anti-Squeak Pivoted Type. Brake Shoes - Ferodo Bonded Asbestos. The front axle has not shown any defects. The | ||
