Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your letter of February 11th., ref. HBD.GGJ. We have examined several of your propeller shafts in these Works; having been told by you where the alignment marks were, we were able to find them on all the propeller shafts, but in certain cases had to scrape off the paint before being able to do so.

On some of the shafts one of the arrows was not on the tube itself but on the tapering portion the other side of the weld. We think some more obvious mark is required, because although we do not expect that shafts will be anything but infrequently taken to pieces, it is very essential that they should be re-assembled correctly.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
