TIBET BOOT Further tests have been carried out to determine the capacity of the three versions of the boot using a school trunk (36" x 21" x 13" dimensions supplied by JPB) and a Siam set of suitcases. The results were as follows:- 1) With full size wheel and tyre stowed under false floor 1 School trunk. 1 Siam set of suitcases less two 22" x 14" x 6" cases. 2) With full size wheel only stowed under nearside wing 1 School trunk 1 Siam set of suitcases 3) With "Get-you-Home" small wheel stowed under false floor 1 School trunk 1 Siam set of suitcases. We have tried various straps for assisting the removal of the spare wheel, but have met with little success. The chief difficulty is stretching the straps so that they are tight enough to be effective. This led SS{S. Smith}/CC to evolve a method of stowing the full size wheel in such a way that its removal was much easier and at the same time the luggage accommodation was increased. He stowed the wheel vertically against the front wall of the boot and protected the luggage from it with a board hinged to the boot/floor. To remove the wheel, the board (it would be a flanged pressing in practice) is hinged backwards till it rests on the rear wall of the boot, thus providing a ramp for the wheel. continued.. | ||
