COPY FOR MR. HIVES. STAMP: D 30 OCT 1918 OY2-B2918 October 2d, 1918. TO F.H.ROYCE FROM OY: Copy to- Mr. Bailey and Mr. Hives. RE DELCO IGNITION. With reference to the three (3) sets of Delco Ignition recently dispatched to you, and of which the explanatory blue prints are already in the post, I send you herewith descriptive sheets relative to the mounting and operation of the Ignition. I think that the sheets are sufficiently explanatory, and I hope that they will prove useful. One point which I had not understood before is that no cut-out is now used with the generator, and it is left to the pilot to switch off the generator when standing, and to start on one distributor only to economize current. A very common sense arrangement appears to be the provision that the batteries are only charged above a speed of 650 R.P.M. This speed, I understand, has been found, experimentally, to be low enough, seeing [struck through, with 'aero' handwritten above] that an aero [struck through] engine is so often running at top speed, or within a small margin of top speed. I would also refer to you the triple winding of the voltage regulator coil, which I think is new. OY. OY (Signature) | ||
