Suggestion to experiment with using thin lubricating oil as an anti-freeze in radiators for cars at the front.

Handwritten in margin: x1435 With reference to cars at the front, I have no idea of any other ant-freezing mixture than the glycerine one already suggested. Someone else, however, may know. I think it would be as well if Mr Haldenby and Mr. Hives were to experiment with all the ideas that can be obtained. A suggestion which has come to my mind is, that a thin cheap lubricating oil might be used in the radiator in cold weather. There is little doubt that if it would do the cooling it would be excellent from other points of view. There is some very cheap oil known as screwing oil, which is the lightest of mineral lubricating oils. It might be tested by our own people, and since we do not trust to the water boiling or making steam, it would appear that oil ought to be just as effective as water.
