X.3457 To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} To H.S. " " To EH " " To M " " c. to Mr. Poole. Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 13/T22.1.19. X.3457 X.3426 With reference to the gearbox and axle on the r chassis, I do not think there ought to be any change whatever made in the method of manufacture, unless it is absolutely proved by practical experience that it is for the betterment of the job. Of course, anything that can be done to improve quietness or reliability should be done after having proved same by experiment. I do hope we shall not introduce the method of turning gears for the gearbox after carbonizing between the webs, unless it can be proved by experiment that this is going to result in a better gear either for quality or quietness. I do not want this note to be interpreted that I am against improved methods, but considerable work has been put on our gears for a large number of years. At the same time I am quite agreeable to any experiments being made towards betterment or simplification. Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} | ||
