For your information, I send you extract, as below, of report from Mr. Paterson, No.900 on his visit to W.H.Johnson Esq., Woodleigh, Altrincham, Cheshire, owner of chassis 1793. "ELECTRIC LIGHTING INSTALLATION" "None fitted. This owner informed me that they make miners electric lamps at his factory, and that they find the only battery which will stand being knocked about is a new Cadmium accumulator, manufactured by a German firm, called Wolff. He considers that the present car lighting system i.e. dynamo and accumulators - is quite wrong, as he does not believe in using the engine power for generating an electric current, besides having to carry the extra weight. He thinks that one ought to run on these Cadmium accumulators only. I argued that it would be very inconvenient to have your accumulators taken out and charged when touring, and that it would be very risky to depend always on your accumulators to see you home. But he would not have it. He has tried to obtain a set of these Cadmium accumulators for his car, but somehow or other, he could not get them. He said he is convinced they will be the car lighting system in the future, and that it would be worth our while to look into it. I promised him I would mention it".
