RB{R. Bowen}/P 19.8.13. RECEIVED 20 AUG 1913 168 Re Steering Pivots - X 247. AW/SMRG/C22413. Mr.Haldenby Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Hon Secy With reference to steering pivots and steering levers, we have not yet obtained any information as to whether any spring buffers or elasticity is beneficial to saving the steering gear from the enormous shocks caused by the car running into caneveaux, or worse still, against a sudden rise in the road, such as occurs where the road has been mended in sections. I cannot help thinking that some elasticity would be very desirable, both for the sake of the steering gear, and also the springs and axles and sub axles. R.{Sir Henry Royce} [Signature] [Handwritten note] Experiments have been made with spring buffers in the cross steering tube and were reported on by Mr Hines reference AW/EH1/C2243 Report on steering pivot X247 A copy of an extract from this report should be sent to Mr Royce WH | ||
