J 1015 To HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/WB.{Mr Brazier/Mr Bell} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} c. HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}3/MH.{M. Huckerby}3.11.38. SEMI-FLOATING AXLE HALF SHAFTS. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has agreed that we should have a rig for running four of these shafts at once. The object of this is to get a figure for fatigue strength of shafts of various sizes before cars are sold to customers. The test being done at the moment on one rig of one shaft lost a lot of its purpose because the 10,000 miles car will provide the information first. We do not want this to happen again. Will you, therefore, please arrange for the necessary rig to be installed, and for tests on shafts of both 45 and 40 mm. in S.A.E.4140 material started as soon as possible.
